One of the key ways in which you and I, together as the church in central and southern Indiana, as part of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Indianapolis with 126 parishes, 68 schools, six Catholic Charities agencies and many ministries, can make a difference is by supporting the annual United Catholic Appeal.
October 12-13 was the UCA Intention Weekend. Each head of household received an intention card envelope. At Masses on November 29 and 30, you will receive a weekly bulletin with an attached envelope containing two items.
A prayer card to add your prayer intentions for Archbishop Thompson to receive and pray for and an appeal intention card. The intention card can be used to identify your pledge to commit to today and schedule payments to fulfill or to make a one-time gift or to set up a recurring gift at the same amount and monthly frequency from year to year. UCA has 5 safe and secure ways to make an online gift, along with a money order, cash, or a personal check.
If you have already made a 2024-25 UCA gift, please check the box in the top corner of your intention card. Please place the card in the envelope and put it in the offertory collection. Thank you!
Each year the United Catholic Appeal raises vital funds to support the ministries of the Archdiocese. These funds help us to spread discipleship, formation, and community to those we serve across central and southern Indiana.
A good way to think about the supported ministries is by using the labels of Teaching, Shepherding, and Serving.
Teaching: The UCA supports ministries such as seminarian education, vocations, parish-based and deanery-wide catechesis, evangelization and discipleship programs, catholic schools, and the care and support of our retired priests.
Shepherding:The UCA supports numerous ministries are directly supported including Youth Ministry, Intercultural Ministry, Marriage Preparation, Project Rachel, and many more.
Serving:The UCA directly supports all our Catholic Charities spread throughout the Archdiocese, as well as supporting the Mother Theodore Catholic Academies, our archdiocesan center-city schools.
To learn more about UCA and to see for yourself how together we can make a difference, read about UCA in the parish bulletin or view the short video highlighting UCA’s work.
Not sure where to begin or how much to give?
Do not get caught up in the details, make your gift the same way you support your parish and other charitable organizations. How I choose to support UCA by making a monthly gift using the safe and secure onlinegiving portal using my age for my monthly gift amount, increasing my monthly gift by $1 each year, this year making a monthly gift of $98 ($49 a month as a parishioner of St. Boniface Parish and $49 a month as a parishioner of St. Meinrad Parish).
If you have never made a gift to UCA, consider making a gift with one of these suggestions. This is how I first started back in college when attending the parish whose ministry included the home for the university's Catholic Campus Ministry - a Newman Center - a place to go to church on Sunday, hang out, have a free dinner, and meet new friends - friendships that I still connect and communicate with today, and again when enrolled as a parishioner here in Spencer County on the Feast of Matthew, September 21, 2009.
Make a gift a matching what you spent in a fast-food stop, date night, or dining in or out or in October
Make a gift matching on a single fill of fuel for your vehicle - when the tank in at least half empty
Make a gift matching what you spent on a monthly digital or print subscription.
Please remember that 100% - yes, 100% - of your gift supports these and other programs and ministries sponsored by the archdiocese.
Together, you and I can make a collective difference in ways that you and I could not do alone or even as a parish family. When the Church of Central and Southern Indiana comes together for this annual time of giving good things become great making all things things possible in God's name.
Again, please consider making a difference for others by making a one-time or recurring gift today.
I pray that God's blessings continue to bring life and light to you and your loved ones today and in the days to come.
